We just concluded a highly successful RISC-V Taipei Day, where the enthusiasm and engagement of the RISC-V community were evident. Attendees gathered in large numbers to explore the latest advancements and innovations within the ecosystem. I had the honor of giving a talk as the RISE Governing Board Vice Chair.

RISE is a vital initiative within the RISC-V community, focused on advancing the commercial readiness of RISC-V software. Our mission is to enhance the quality of RISC-V platform software implementations, ensuring they are on par with other architectures and positioning RISC-V as a tier one platform for tools, libraries, and widespread industry adoption.

At RISE, we concentrate on simplifying the transition to RISC-V-based solutions, with the overarching goal of accelerating adoption across all segments. While this is an ambitious task, it is absolutely achievable when the community aligns its efforts, eliminates redundancy, and channels resources.

How do we turn this vision into reality? The key lies in upstream collaboration. By working upstream, we can coordinate contributions and forge connections with established communities. We encourage upstream projects to view RISE as a trusted partner—one that shares its objectives openly and helps address the critical enablement challenges within the RISC-V ecosystem.

RISE members are coordinating efforts across multiple software areas to deliver high-quality, high-performance implementations for RISC-V software. Our platform efforts include system firmware, simulators, emulators, and kernel virtualization. In developer tools, we’re working on compilers and toolchains. For libraries and middleware, we’ve focused on backporting RISC-V support for JDK, Go, and Python, and the team also published the RISC-V Optimization Guide to aid developers.

So, how can you get involved?

You can become a member of RISE or participate in the RISE RFP (Request for Proposal) program. This program provides opportunities to fund and support large-scale RISC-V projects.

Additionally, RISE is gearing up to mobilize grassroots initiatives for RISC-V developers and will soon launch the RISC-V Developers Incentive Pilot Program. Stay tuned for more details at the RISE Project.
