How to Get Involved
There are multiple ways to participate in the RISE project, depending on the scale of your interest and resources.
Option A: Bid on an Active RFP (Large-Scale Projects)
For organizations or experienced developers capable of taking on significant software development tasks.
- Subscribe to Notifications: Join the mailing list at lists.riseproject.dev (specifically RISE-RFP-Notifications).
- Monitor the Website: Check the RISE Confluence Wiki regularly for open RFPs or this site.
- Submit a Proposal: Follow the guidelines in the specific RFP. Proposals typically require detailing your technical approach, team expertise, timeline, and budget.
Option B: Join Working Groups
You can participate in the technical discussions that shape the RFPs.
- RISE Working Groups are open to the community.
- You can participate in meetings, mailing lists, and slack channels to help identify technical priorities.
- Check the relevant working groups on our GitHub.
Request for Proposals (RFP) Program
The RFP program funds and supports large-scale software projects to improve the RISC-V software ecosystem. It targets complex, significant efforts (weeks or months of work) that might be beyond the scope of individual volunteers.
The RFP Process Lifecycle
The RFP process is designed to be transparent and collaborative, managed by the RISE Technical Steering Committee (TSC) and the Governing Board.
- Identify Needs: RISE Working Groups (focusing on areas like Toolchains, Runtimes, Kernel, etc.) identify technical gaps and requirements in the RISC-V ecosystem.
- Propose Projects: Working groups formulate these needs into project proposals.
- Approval: The RISE Governing Board reviews and approves funding for the proposed projects.
- Issue RFP: Approved projects are published as RFPs on the public RISE Confluence Wiki and on the RISE website RFP page.
- Notification: New RFPs are announced via the RISE-RFP-Notifications mailing list (subscribe here)
- Public Bidding: The bidding window is opened (typically lasting a few weeks). External organizations, companies, or individuals submit detailed proposals.
- Selection & Award: RISE evaluates the proposals based on expertise, timeline, cost, and alignment with project goals, and awards the contract.
- Project Execution: The selected bidder executes the project, with progress tracked publicly
